An account of the campaign of the Australian Light Horse from the Suez Canal at the end of 1915 through to Gaza in 1917, when they were pioneers ahead of the rest of the Army. Describes the nature of their daily work, probing & patrolling, the effects of the campaign ("Septic sores were almost universal") & the evacuation of casualties. Includes diary of 8th Light Horse (a Vcitorian unit) during 1916 & the author's diary of work during 1917 as a medical officer with the force. The pseudonym comes from his brother, Trooper William George Duguid of the 8th Light Horse who was mortally wounded in April 1917 & is commemorated on the Jerusalem Memorial. There were several editions, all privately published, of which this seems to be the 3rd or 4th (& final version). Yet it is rare in any form and there are just two copies on JISC/Library Hub (formerly COPAC). Both are this edition, one at Oxford University & the other in the possession of the National Trust at Plas Newydd (home of the late Lord Anglesey, historian of the British cavalry). Orig. hlaf dark red morocco, brown cloth boards, titled in gilt to front, somewhat rubbed & worn, generally VG with contemp. ownrship inscrip. of "Sigr. F. Grover 3rd L.H. 1st ALH Bde. A.M.D." See illustrations on our website.
