Biography of Gen. Sir Frederick Maurice, based on various personal papers & edited by his son. Commissioned RA 1862, on staff in Ashanti War 1873, Zulu War 1879, Egypt 1882 (these campaigns largely described in his own words, from correspondence). Maurice was official historian of the Egypt Campaign & Boer War 1899-1902. Eight selected essays on 'Discipline & National Efficiency' appended. Orig. maroon cloth, gilt, ex-Brooklyn Public Lib. with customary stamps & label, sound thus.
