Material extracted from War Diary mainly relating to the period of the Battle of Amiens. Includes Lists of District Commandants & Town Majors; Instructions re Casualty Returns; Instructions re Reinforcements & Casuals; Medical Arrangements for Canadian Corps; Instructions re Prisoners of War during Operations; Instructions re Disposal of Civilians in re-occupied territory & Canadian Corps Revised Instructions - Burial of the Dead. In a note headed "Classification & Disposal of Officers & Other Ranks who without any visible wound become non-effective from physical conditions claimed or presumed to have originated from the effects of British or Enemy weapons in action" it is noted that such cases whose "transfer from their Unit or division is unavoidable" were to be sent to the enigmatically named "Special Hospital" and it is also stated that "In no circumstances whatever will the expression 'shell shock' be made use of verbally or be recorded in any regimental or other casualty report, or in any other hospital or medical document except in cases so classified by the order of the Officer Commanding the Special Hospital." One may draw one's own conclusions. Workmanlike card binding with cloth backstrip, VG with bookplate of US Army War College Library, typed title labels to front & a few ink markings. It is evident that this British intelligence material was passed to the Americans & retained for study at the War College.
