[HLMainPic] Ian Macfarlane was educated at George Watson's College, Edinburgh, and Edinburgh University (Student of Medicine, 1905-11). Commissioned in the Royal Army Medical Corps in 1915, he died of typhus on 18th July 1917 whilst serving with the Egyptian Hospital, Khan Yunus, and is buried in the Kantara War Memorial Cemetery. He was twenty-nine years old. A memoir of his youth and description of his work for the Edinburgh Medical Missionary Society in Nazareth and Damascus, followed by his letters, including a small selection from France and Egypt 1915-17.
